Frenchies Dessert Parlour will ‘live on’ under new ownership

Frenchies Dessert Parlour will re-open after interest generated from Get Surrey saw potential buyers invest in the business

An independent business in Camberley will continue trading under new ownership after its situation was highlighted.

Frenchies Dessert Parlour closed on Sunday (June 12) after just two years in business.

Co-owners Lucy Bass, from Camberley, and Rachel Davidson, from Sandhurst, said this was due to a lack of trade outside the summer months.

Mrs Bass told Get Surrey last month that they were struggling to sell the business as a going concern and had already dropped the asking price to £25,000, half of what it cost them to set up the parlour in Obelisk Way in April 2014.

This week, however, she revealed that seven expressions of interest from potential buyers and negotiations had led her and her business partner to reach a deal with one of the bidders.

“We didn’t expect anyone to come forward, but we ended up with so many messages that it was a bit stressful," she said.

“Sunday was quite sad and there were a lot of tears, but it’s nice to know that Frenchies will live on.”

Mrs Bass said she could not reveal the names of the buyers until the sale was finalised, but she explained that they intended to keep trading under the Frenchies name and would work at the parlour themselves.

She added that the buyers already run a cafe and said she was confident that they would make Frenchies successful.

She is yet to be told whether any of her members of staff will be hired by the new owners.

A re-opening date will be set once the sale has gone through, but Mrs Bass said the buyers were keen to start trading "as soon as possible".
