Service personnel and veterans joined the Mayor of Surrey Heath, Councillor John Winterton, on Monday June 20 when Surrey Heath Borough Council raised a flag for the UK Armed Forces.
Despite the rainy weather, the Armed Forces Day flag was raised outside Surrey Heath House ahead of the national day of commemoration which this year takes place on Saturday 25 June 2016.
The flag was simultaneously raised by local authorities across the country for the week leading up to Armed Forces Day.
Councillor Winterton said at the ceremony: “Surrey Heath is extremely proud of our connection and continued relationship with both the Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. The flag is raised not only to show our support of our Armed Forces, both serving and to those who have served, but to express our gratitude for all the work carried out in protecting this country. We give sincere and heartfelt thanks for their dedication and sacrifice over the years.”
